Project Manager

Location: Derby Head Office with UK wide travel

Description: Dynamic, proactive and experienced Project Manager required to oversee all areas of responsibility on multiple projects of up to £10m in value at a time.

Our highly successful niche sector client has been established for more than 30 years and offers a range of services that encompass Project Management and Implementation, Consultancy and Software Development to blue chip clients worldwide. As a result of continued success and an ongoing planned programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and self-motivated Project Manager to complement the existing project engineering team.

Reporting to the Operations Director and tasked with the project management of multiple projects ranging from small (£50k) monitoring projects to complex (£10m) control / system integration projects, the successful candidate will hold complete responsibility for project delivery according to client’s requirements both on time and within budget, managing an internal project engineering team and ensuring adherence to all H&S and QA processes as applicable.

The Project Manager role is a varied one and encompasses various activities in the everyday running of projects, including (but not limited to):

Cost and Commercial Management – including financial reporting, cost monitoring and spend forecasting; preparing quotes; contributing to proposals for new business as required; Managing client payment applications and certification of supply chain invoices to maintain a good project cash-flow.

Programme Management – including preparing project programmes using Primavera P6 or MS Project, and management of project delivery time-scales; needing to be credible and achieve milestone dates while showing risk allowances, critical path identification, key milestones and external dependencies.

Team Management – including management of the internal project team engineers and associated line-manager duties, allocating and monitoring work activities for team members to achieve maximum efficiency.

Risk Management – including full risk management by maintaining a risk register and managing the identification and mitigation of risks, issues and opportunities; discussing and agreeing risk mitigation with the client and performing change management and risk protection using contractual processes.

Contract Management – including review, negotiation and work to contract clauses with support from Operations and Finance Directors; Contract management for changes to requirements, cost, time-scales and unforeseen events.

Client Management – including building a firm but fair and flexible working relationship with clients and liaising with client engineers, project managers and stakeholders.

Supply Chain Management – including performing supplier selection according to budget, timescales and requirements and undertaking supplier contract management for performance, payments and risk.

H&S and QA Processes - Full Health and Safety responsibility for project team and working conditions and complete responsibility for project adherence to ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environmental), ISO 27001 (Information Security), ISO 44001 (Collaborative Working), ISO 45001 (Occupational H&S) and legal requirements.

To be considered for this varied and challenging role, it is envisaged that the successful candidate will be qualified to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline or demonstrate significant practical experience of working on systems projects (ideally within the infrastructure industry), with a working knowledge of control systems proving distinctly advantageous. With strong interpersonal, organisational and communication skills both verbal and written and the ability to manage and motivate a team, you will be familiar with all aspects of Project Management process, Risk management, Commercial management and Contract execution techniques and demonstrate proven successful experience of managing projects to time, cost and quality objectives and familiar with programming and cost forecasting.
