Description: Experienced and enthusiastic Senior Design Manager with experience of water, civil, structural and environmental consulting engineering required for market leading operation in the West Midlands.

Our client is an established and globally renowned Consulting Engineering practice that provide civil and structural, environmental and water engineering services to both the public and private sectors, and has successfully undertaken a range of projects valued at between €100m and €600m. As a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of strategic growth, are now seeking to recruit an experienced, enthusiastic and highly self-motivated Senior Design Manager to complement their highly successful operation.
Based in the Midlands, the successful candidate will be tasked with initially managing the design of a £60m Design and Build pipeline contract on behalf of the engineering consultant who is in the role of Contractor’s Designer. The project is located in the West Midlands Area and the design team is partially co-located with the Contractor and Water Authority staff. The role presents an opportunity for a skilled project manager in a consulting engineering business to progress to the next level of developing and managing a business division.
You will be responsible for initially managing the civil engineering design for the project, and co-ordinating with the M&E designer and with the Contractor, coordinating the requirement of statutory and planning consents with the relevant authorities and liaising between the collocated staff and the consultant’s head office. You will additionally be tasked with submitting design documentation for client review and managing the approvals, on a design period that is anticipated to take approximately 6 months.
It is envisaged that the role will then evolve into a business development role furthering business, principally in the Water / Waste Water Sector, both in the Midlands regions as well as elsewhere in the UK, with the successful candidate taking on the role of managing and developing all UK business for the organisation.
To be considered for this varied and extremely challenging role, the successful candidate will be a Chartered Engineer (ICE or equivalent) and able to demonstrate at least 12 Years+ post qualification experience in a design and
construction supervision environment allied to the water / wastewater sector, with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in engineering design office. With exceptional communication and influencing skills at all levels, you will be a confident and articulate communicator who will be responsible for both managing design and for liaison with client / 3rd parties / statutory bodies on projects of capital value in excess of £10m.
Essentially possessing previous experience of co-ordinating M&E design (surge vessels, large pumps, SCADA) with civil design along with experience in working on projects as the contractor’s designer, and in managing the technical acceptance of submissions, you will demonstrate a working knowledge of NEC form of Contract and of large diameter (>800mm) pipeline design as well as of associated design of temporary works for pipeline contracts, and experience of both developing and presenting fee proposals for consulting engineering services.
