Our client specialise in the design and manufacture of a range of special purpose products for supply to the global defence sector, and as a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of planned strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced, dynamic and self motivated ILS Manager to complement their established and highly successful team.
Reporting to the Head of ILS, the successful candidate will define and manage the ILS work packages on behalf of a range of projects and provide technical expertise to the project on all ILS related matters whilst acting as the primary interface to the Customer on all support related matters, and leading a team of specialists in specifying the support requirements to ensure a supportable system. You will be responsible for developing both the Project ILS Strategy during the various project phases and cascading it through the Supply Chain and for the associated System support strategy, ensuring project commitment to delivery of a design compatible with the defined strategy and ensuring it provides the flexibility to deliver a Support Solution compatible with the MOD Support Assessment criteria and the needs of the export market. You will ensure that ILS evolves in a timely manner, consistent with the needs of the project as defined in the project schedule and as monitored at gate reviews and will implement the Customer’s contractual ILS and supportability requirements, through all phases of the project life cycle.
Tasked with delivering all ILS/supportability contract deliverables (typically including ILS Plans Support solution, Supportability case, Whole Life Cost, Support Analysis, Initial Provisioning Maintenance planning, Customer training, User technical documentation, and support equipment etc), you will also lead, develop and motivate ILS staff to ensure they are aware of and capable of delivering their accountabilities, and will act as the primary ILS Interface to the customer. You will attend MoD Programme, Design and ILS Reviews and ensure ILS project drivers are considered and associated risks and their impacts are actioned, as well as chairing internal Project ILS & Supportability Reviews and managing, conducting and closing out these reviews in a timely manner and consistent with milestone deliveries.
To be considered for this varied and challenging role working jointly with customers in developing the Project ILS/Supportability Strategy, you will need to be fully conversant with MoD Support Assessment criteria and Defence Lines of Development and able to successfully influence the product design to enhance in-service supportability. You will be able to carry out sensitivity studies of potential support solutions addressing operational use, maintenance policy, and through-life costs across the project life cycle and assess and judge technical content of supplier ILS activities and be the authority for ILS acceptance in accordance with contracts placed on suppliers. You will possess significant experience in ILS / engineering leadership and management alongwith a relevant degree or experience preferably with an ILS background and an exhaustive understanding of the appropriate UK & international standards and guidance relating to ILS activities. With your ability to challenge design concepts and trade requirements, in order to optimise support and well-developed strategic planning and organisational skills, you will demonstrate highly developed verbal and written communication skills and a track record of successfully managing projects.
