Description: Experienced and qualified Principal Mechanical Engineer required for globally renowned manufacturing organisation.

Salary: to £45k negotiable dependant upon experience

Our client specialise in the design and manufacture of a range of special purpose products for supply to the global defence sector, and as a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of planned strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced, dynamic and self motivated Principal Mechanical Engineer to complement their established and highly successful team. 

Reporting to the Mechanical Group Leader, the successful candidate will be responsible for the generation and delivery of concept and manufacturing design definitions, based on technical specifications, requirements and other constraints, and will actively participate in both developing and maintaining relevant engineering processes and procedures. You will plan, control and deliver assigned projects or work packages, ensuring requirements are delivered to plan and budget whilst supporting the identification of business opportunities and the preparation of bids. 

Additionally you will define appropriate test programs for design verification and make results-based recommendations on their outcome, including suggestions for improving test/diagnosis process, and will generate applicable interface requirements and other specifications as required. Essentially you will keep up to date in relevant technical areas and develop skills and capabilities and supply support and expertise to others as required, acting as the main point of contact with customers (internal and external) and/or suppliers and collaborators on assigned engineering matters and leading engineering support activities in the field and for assigned products, developing documentation to support in-service use and leading a small sub-team as required. Other activities will include the issue of Technical Bulletins and Reports, and the generation and evaluation of concept designs and manufacturing definitions against requirements and constraints as well as the generation of Interface Requirements and via agreement with suppliers / partners issue of mechanical interfaces.  

To be considered for this varied and challenging role, you will essentially demonstrate knowledge & experience in mechanical or electro-mechanical design and will be qualified to at least HND level in a relevant discipline with substantial relevant practical experience in working from a basis of concept and principles. You will possess experience in more than one phase of the engineering life cycle, with sufficient experience of the total life cycle to ensure a good understanding of adjacent phases and through-life engineering issues with relevant 3D CAD skills a prerequisite. An appreciation of structural and thermal analysis would also prove distinctly advantageous. Commercially astute with the ability to manage budgets, you will excel in managing multiple projects/work packages and associated team members and will demonstrate substantial analytical and problem solving skills and a full understanding of relevant engineering and quality standards.
