Description: Experienced Senior Procurement professional required for globally renowned defence sector market leader.

Salary: to £50k negotiable dependant upon experience

Our client specialise in the design and manufacture of a range of special purpose products for supply to the global defence sector, and as a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of planned strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced, dynamic and self motivated Purchasing and Procurement Manager to complement their established and highly successful team and to ensure delivery within time, quality and cost constraints. 

Specifically responsible for the commercial integrity of sub-contracts, contract amendments and delivery of savings to achieve the company Cost Reduction Plan (CRP), the successful candidate will implement strategies to deliver maximum business advantage in line with the company business plan and complex political environment.  You will manage the major supplier related aspects of the business winning process associated with one or more major suppliers and will be accountable for drafting RFQ’s and the negotiation of complex sub-contracts, contract amendments and other industrial agreements ensuring they meet the requirements of the Project and minimise risk and cost to our client on project values of up to £2M although the total value of subcontracts in place can vary between £10m and £200m dependant upon experience. 

You will ensure Sub-contractors deliver to programme in line with project requirements within authorized budgets and technical requirements and perform in accordance with their contractual obligations, whilst ensuring adequate visibility of the sub-contractor programmes to enable resolution of problems before they impact on the business. Additionally you will support cost reduction activities and undertake risk management and change management within the delivery team to maximise commercial benefit. You will forecast cash payments in order that business plans are achieved and will be constantly aware of, and implement strategies, to overcome problems that may hazard timely delivery of project requirements or cost, running supplier meetings including regular progress reviews to ensure contract performance and understand the status of sub contracts and being an active member of an integrated, multi-functional project team. 

To be considered for this varied and challenging role, you will essentially demonstrate solid negotiation experience and interpersonal skills and experience of working on complex, highly political multi-national programmes with strong familiarity of MOD terms and conditions. Previous experience of managing high value high risk strategic suppliers who are responsible for design development and certification of product to demanding safety and performance requirements alongwith good process and change management experience are also prerequisites for the role. With extensive knowledge on a broad range of Commercial issues and skills including project management skills throughout the contract lifecycle (bidding, R&D, Production and In Service Support, you will also have proven effective influencing and team working skills and People management skills.
