Our client, part of a group established for more than a century and renowned globally as a market leader in their specialist field, are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, highly self motivated and capable Design Engineer to work in their busy design and drawing office and to complement their highly successful existing mechanical project design team.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager and qualified to at least HNC or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline and able to demonstrate at least 2 years previous heat transfer environment experience in any manufacturing sector (rail, automotive or aerospace etc), you will be proficient in the use of everyday Microsoft Excel, Word and Project applications and will work on a Monday to Friday basis within the design and drawing office, undertaking occasional visits to client premises and so excellent communication skills as well as undertaking a range of in-house design projects.
Able to demonstrate previous thermal engineering knowledge with experience of designing all types of shell & tube heat exchangers and tube & fin charge air coolers, with a creative approach for generating new ideas, you will possess a sound knowledge of 3D CAD software (ideally ProEngineer and Inventor) alongwith a working knowledge and ability to produce mechanical designs in accordance with the European Pressure Equipment Directive. Additional working knowledge of ASME VIII Pressure Vessel Code and knowledge of heat exchanger manufacturing processes and materials will prove distinctly advantageous, as will knowledge of composite materials and plastics.
Whilst previous programme management skills and knowledge would be beneficial as would knowledge of APQP procedures, the ability to work under your own initiative with minimal supervision and demonstrate excellent time management and organisational skills is essential.
