Description: Exceptional opportunity for a mechanically biased engineer to undertake stress calculations and FE work on a range of engineering projects
Salary: Negotiable dependant upon experience
Our client require an experienced non-fe stress analyst to undertake checking of calculations within a busy safety critical engineering environment.
The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in the analysis of mechanical mechanisms (e.g. drive systems), structural analysis of high integrity mechanical plant and preferably experience in the assessment of lifting / materials handling equipment and lifting attachments, seismic analysis or impact analysis. Additionally you will demonstrate a solid and broad engineering background in medium weight mechanical and structural engineering, bespoke mechanical handling equipment, and lifting equipment, with experience of design and analysis to BS2573 proving to be distinctly advantageous.
You will work within a small but dedicated Analysis Group and perform tasks as directed by the Principal Analyst within defined time, cost and quality standards set by the company,
In this challenging position, you will demonstrate the ability to personally decide what calculations are required in order to demonstrate acceptability of the design and should be able to define all options/factors that have a bearing on the acceptability of the design calculations, successfully identifying what is actually needed to be done to prove the fitness for purpose of the item(s) concerned. You will be able to carry out a defined calculation to determine the acceptability of a structural or mechanical component to the requirements of the code/standard or other acceptance criteria before presenting calculations and results in a manner suitable for checking, auditing and approval.
It is envisaged therefore that you will have achieved a relevant qualification and currently have at least 7 years continuous industrial experience (i.e. without lapse due to security clearance) as well as a thorough working knowledge of (and competent in the interpretation of) both BS2573 Part 1 and Part 2 and BS5950. All calculations are to be prepared electronically thus a good working knowledge of MathCAD is required.
Experience of ANSYS Classic or ANSYS Workbench will prove to be distinctly advantageous, although a thorough working knowledge of other proprietary FE packages such as NASTRAN, ABAQUS or Pro-Mechanica will also be considered.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a suitably experienced and enthusiastic team member to compliment the activities of an established and successful division.
