Our client has been established for nearly seven decades and are recognised as a leading manufacturer of electromechanical devices and electronic systems across the globe, employing more than 15,000 employees at more than 150 manufacturing locations. As a result of continued success and a planned programme of ongoing strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced, self-motivated and highly capable Senior Software Engineer to complement their established and successful team.
Reporting to the Technical Director, the successful candidate will be tasked with leading a small software team based in India and setting the vision for the development of next generation industrial software solutions in an environment where the software team are primarily responsible for analysis software and presenting data to customers from a range of temperature and environmental monitoring sensors. Working as a hands-on developer, you will manage a team of off-shore colleagues and UK based contractors and will take the lead in ensuring the software function is compliant with ISO 9001 approved quality procedures.
You will also be responsible for providing input to the Product Management team on the future direction of software platforms to allow the client to meet the future of needs of customers in their target industrial markets, and will work towards achieving mutually agreed business goals whilst being measured on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Other duties will include planning and executing project and ensuring that teams have appropriate product and technical specifications, direction and resources to deliver products effectively by establishing realistic estimates for timelines while ensuring that projects remain on target to meet deadlines. You will cooperate with product management, sales and service teams to gain an understanding of the Voice of Customer including the system’s functional and non-functional requirements, and will manage the complete software development life cycle, including providing a software development plan that meets the future needs of customers.
You will effectively evolve existing software applications and architecture in various areas as needed and coordinate release and sprint planning as well as conducting daily scrum meetings as appropriate, building a close relationship with marketing to ensure that all documentation is completed to support the on-time release of each product and articulating key features and benefits of the software to Product Management and Marketing to ensure these can be communicated to customers. You will also ensure that all software projects are executed in-line with the company’s quality assurance procedures and will be responsible for the remote management of a development team in India, providing leadership and guidance to coach, motivate, and lead team members to their optimum performance levels and career development, with occasional travel to India as required.
To be considered for this varied and challenging role, it is envisaged that the successful candidate will be qualified to at least degree level in Computer Science or a related discipline and demonstrate a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a software development engineering management position. You will possess a proven track record of successful delivery of software applications as an individual, team leader and/or development manager and a strong understanding of the software development cycle, as well as demonstrating strong leadership, project management skills, time management, and problem solving skills.
Essentially you will possess experience with Scrum methodology and Agile practices and of developing Windows applications for the .NET framework using C# as well as in developing software using C++ and MFC. You will also possess an understanding of relational databases (MSSQL, MySQL etc) and familiarity with TCP/IP communications and basic network administration and Microsoft Expression Studio user interface design.
