IT Hardware Engineer West Midlands to c£30,000 + benefits
Our client has been established for more than half a century and specialise in the sourcing and distribution of highest quality fresh FMCG produce to customers throughout the UK and Europe. As a result of continued success and a planned programme of ongoing strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced, dynamic and proactive IT Hardware Engineer to complement their established and highly professional IT systems team.
Reporting to the IT Systems Manager, the successful candidate will be tasked with the implementation and first line support for all aspects of company IT systems, software and equipment for the UK operation, and will be responsible for identifying, researching, developing and implementing IT and Management Solutions across the business as a whole. You will source, build and maintain workstations for the Company as required, and provide training to staff in the use of both software and computer hardware, and will assist in the development of management information systems using IT systems and hardware.
As the site runs on a 24/7 basis, upon successful completion of your probationary period, you will be included in the Support rota system, with working patterns alternating between the Sunday to Thursday and Tuesday to Saturday working rota from 7am to 5pm. You will be responsible for collecting and interpreting company information as required, and primarily will provide an efficient desktop helpdesk service for the whole of the company, recording and prioritizing support calls and efficiently resolving or escalating issues as appropriate.
Other duties will include supporting and updating company websites as required, and installing, configuring and administrating desktop PCs, software and associated peripherals whilst maintaining an asset register of both departments’ computer equipment (including arranging the procurement and disposal of equipment as appropriate). You will also provide training to users, giving advice on equipment choice and suggesting improvements to services, and assist in administrating and maintaining the MS Windows domain and TCP/IP network where necessary.
Additional tasks will include maintaining e-mail and other distribution lists and the system security and virus detection systems in place, as well as providing assistance in departmental web and database development projects as they may arise, and supporting network-connected Windows XP and Macintosh OS X operating systems, including networked file systems, email and printers and dealing with virus and security issues if necessary. The ability to develop and apply Windows network security considerations, including firewalls, AV, wireless security, Internet security best user practice and network file share permissions is essential for the position.
You will support the Microsoft Office application suite and both develop and apply POP and IMAP mail protocol basics and configuration of a mail client for either, essentially demonstrate previous experience in the development and application of basic IP networking and relational database system development, and will be able to attain a good working knowledge of Visual Basic. An efficient problem solver and able to prioritise effectively, this is an excellent opportunity for a suitably experienced IT Engineer to progress their career to the next level.
