Our client, established for more than a century and renowned globally as a market leader in their specialist field, are urgently seeking to recruit a highly self-motivated, proactive and dynamic Applications Engineer to develop thermal designs, devise cost estimates and quotations and to provide support to a range of internal and external customers and sales members.

Reporting to the Applications Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will be tasked with processing customer enquiries from initial receipt (either directly or via the Sales team) and providing thermal and outline mechanical designs including specification of bought in components for the range of company products. You will establish the feasibility of designs through liaison with the Design, Methods and Manufacturing Departments and will establish product costs through reference to price lists, standard cost data, bought in component costs and liaison with the Costing and Purchasing departments.

You will also be responsible for establishing product lead times with the Design and Production control departments and prepare formal quotes in accordance with company procedures, checking contract review documents on receipt of an order and producing a PPER document for subsequent processing, whilst establishing and maintaining strong technical rapport and liaison with the customer including site visits as necessary.

To be considered for this varied and challenging opportunity, it is essential that you demonstrate strong knowledge of Thermodynamics, along with exceptional communication skills at all levels (both verbal and written) and proficiency in the use of the MS Suite of programs. You will demonstrate previous experience in the use of customised thermal selection programmes and possess sound problem solving skills, with knowledge of copper/brass and aluminium plate and bar core surfaces proving distinctly advantageous.

It is envisaged that the successful will be qualified to at least HND or above in a relevant Mechanical Engineering discipline and possess a working knowledge of Heat Exchangers. The ability to ensure proposals are submitted in a timely and professional manner and the ability to converse effectively with both internal and external customers is critical for the position.
