Description: Proactive and experienced Operations Manager required for our niche sector market leading manufacturing client encompassing all aspects of budgetary control, staffing and continuous improvement.

Our client has been established for almost 60 years and are the UK’s leading manufacturer of innovative solutions allied to their niche sector industry, supplying an array of customers and industry sectors throughout the world. As a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced and proactive Operations Manager to oversee all aspects of Production including planning, scheduling, warehousing and stock management within a busy manufacturing environment in order to ensure business objectives are achieved.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will essentially demonstrate previous experience and positive achievements gained within a busy engineering or manufacturing environment and will become a collaborative member of the senior leadership team.

Tasked with measuring and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of operational processes, you will lead the implementation of change initiatives to drive improvements and organisational growth in the planning, controlling and co-ordinating the staff and processes of production, warehouse and production planning in order to achieve agreed business objectives. You will lead, motivate and develop the operational team to deliver business objectives and growth whilst maintaining up to date sector knowledge including industry developments, competitor products and best practices, using this knowledge to lead sustained change improvement whilst ensuring compliance with relevant H&S legislation and company policies and procedures at all times.

Other responsibilities for this varied and challenging role will include (but not be limited to): 

  • Forecasting and managing resource allocation to budget.
  • Developing and publishing to the management team reliable and meaningful production performance information of both people and equipment.
  • Ensuring production is planned to maintain customer minimum/maximum stock levels to the quantities agreed in stock holding agreements and controlling overall days of stock holding and machine loadings.
  • Ensuring efficient and effective scheduling of production orders using the Company’s systems to ensure orders are manufactured on time to achieve order ship by dates after allowing for QC testing.
  • Selection, recruitment, development, induction and training of the operations team as well as being responsible for employee relations and discipline within your own department whilst following the company’s HR policy and HR advisors recommended actions.
  • Entry and maintenance of computer data relevant to the functional activities of your own departments.
  • Management of sub-contract manufactured items.
  • Liaising with customer service, sales and customers for all production planning issues.
  • Reviewing manufacturing variance and correcting reviewing standard times for all production machines.
  • Investigation and causal analysis of actual production drifting from scheduled production.
  • Advising on production development opportunities to improve productivity and efficiencies.
  • Involvement in specifying new machines and equipment as required.
  • Planning, controlling and co-ordinating of authorised production development projects.
  • Instructing employees for a well-founded analysis of process or quality deviations as well as the definition and implementation of corrective actions.

To be considered for this exceptional Operations Manager opportunity, you will essentially demonstrate exhaustive experience of successfully leading cross functional teams and identifying, implementing and sustaining continuous improvement and change management within a busy manufacturing environment. You will be an effective problem-solver with exceptional communication skills at all levels - with knowledge of adhesives, paper and coatings proving distinctly advantageous - and you will be able to adjust to the multiple demands and shifting priorities ever present within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
