Description: Experienced and enthusiastic HSE Advisor required by our established and internationally renowned engineering solutions specialist client.
Our client is part of a group that has been established for more than 150 years and specialise in a range of bespoke engineering and material handling activities and solutions, and as a result of continued success and an ongoing commitment to strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced Health Safety and Environmental HSE Advisor to be based at their Nottingham site near Beeston, reporting to (and supporting) the Operations Manager and being responsible for overseeing all aspects of day to day activities within a busy depot based environment.
Tasked with proactively leading and promoting the Company’s HSE strategy and implementing the Integrated Management System, the successful candidate will also be responsible for monitoring HSE performance throughout the depot, actively participating in and supporting the development and improvement of HSE culture as well as both developing and enhancing safe systems of work and risk assessments, encompassing all aspects of Health & Safety and Environment and considering how risks could be mitigated.
Core responsibilities for this varied and challenging position will include (but not be limited to):
- Conducting regular site inspections to check that the Company’s Integrated Management System policies and procedures are being properly implemented and complied with and that working practices are safe and comply with legislation and appropriate railway standards
- preparing HSE strategies and developing internal policies and procedures in conjunction with the QHSE Manager and Senior Management Team
- developing and maintaining a positive working relationship with client and company personnel, to ensure a safety working environment and managing day-to-day HSE issues and both advising and supporting operational managers as required
- leading in-house training with managers and employees about HSE issues and risks
- Maintaining records of inspection findings and producing reports that demonstrate improvements as well as reporting incidents, accidents or unsafe behaviours and conducting investigations and identifying root causes and corrective actions.
- keeping up to date knowledge of new and existing HSE legislation
- producing management reports, safety bulletins and safety briefings and delivering internal training, briefings and toolbox talks as required
- managing the safe disposal of hazardous substances (COSHH)
- advising on a range of specialist areas, e.g., fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases.
To be considered for this exceptional opportunity within a genuine market leading organisation, it is envisaged that the successful candidate will be qualified to at least HND level or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline and hold a recognised Health, Safety and Environmental qualification (IOSH or NEBOSH) at diploma level (or currently working towards diploma level) along with being a member of IOSH or IEMA. Recognised Train the Trainer qualifications along with experience of working within the Rail industry or Lifting Operations will prove distinctly advantageous. A full UK driving licence is essential for the position as there will be occasional requirements to visit sister locations.
