Description: Experienced Transport and Material planning professional required for our busy manufacturing client. Experience of managing Drivers Hours and Working Time Directive Legislation essential.

Our client has been established for more than half a century and are market leaders in the formulation, development and manufacture of animal feed solutions for customers throughout the UK, and as a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of strategic growth, are now seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Transport & Material Planner to complement their professional mill environment team. 

Employing more than 250 staff at five sites across the country and with a fleet of more than 50 lorries operating on a 24/7 basis, they ensure feed arrives on time and in full with a real focus on biosecurity prior to delivery, on site and during departure, and the successful Transport & Material Planner candidate will support the Assistant Mill Manager and Transport Manager by performing a variety of administrative tasks and co-ordinating the supply of ingredients relating to the production of compound animal feed, in order to meet production demands and to ensure the consistent and cost effective delivery and collection of finished products and raw materials. 

On a day-to-day basis you will provide support with all aspects of transport scheduling, planning delivery schedules in accordance with driver’s hours to maximise utilisation of company resources and ensuring that the transport fleet is run within the Operator License Guidelines to ensure compliance with current road haulage legislation and company policy and procedures. 

You will also ensure vehicle defects are accurately recorded and escalated in an efficient manner to minimise downtime and ensure the vehicle is in a roadworthy and legal condition and complete all relevant documentation relating to each day’s work to ensure compliance with current road haulage legislation and company policy and procedures. 

Other duties will include liaising with the Mill production team to ensure amendments or cancellations of orders are carried out accurately and efficiently, enabling full customer satisfaction, and assessing raw material requirements by conducting daily stock takes and completion of all associated documentation. You will co-ordinate with other operational areas to order materials and allocate resources to meet production demands and liaise with both customers and suppliers to ensure the efficient flow of information, so all internal and external requirements are met.

Able to provide support with absence, capability and disciplinary matters, you will implement all Health and Safety policies and procedures ensuring compliance with legislation and aligned to best practice and drive continuous improvement, reviewing current methodology and opportunities to improve the sites efficiency, safety, quality and performance. 

To be considered for this varied and challenging role, you will essentially need to demonstrate a working knowledge of Drivers Hours and Working Time Directive Legislation with experience in transport planning/scheduling preferrable, along with strong communication skills and the ability to establish good relationships with customers and staff, building wide and effective networks of contacts.
