Description: Experienced and meticulous Quantity Surveyor with demonstrable experience gained allied to the construction industry required by our niche sector consultancy client.

Our client is a technically driven business with over 30 years of expertise, engineering and supporting high integrity control systems for a range of safety critical applications.  These can range from small upgrades through to fully integrated turnkey solutions, covering all aspects of technology from control room to field devices, and supplying the latest technology to various locations throughout the UK and Europe with a range of prestigious clients allied to the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), Highways, Airports and Power sectors, and as a result of continued success and an ongoing planned programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Quantity Surveyor with a good working knowledge of NEC Contracts to complement their existing team.

Reporting to the Financial Controller and working across all projects within the business, the successful candidate will possess excellent attention to detail skills and be familiar with the infrastructure industry, and ideally come from a Technology / Electrical / Systems / M&E background with sound working knowledge of construction and contract law as well as various forms of Conditions of Contract.  The role will require strong supplier and client management skills and the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines where flexibility and adaptability are key.

With a high level of IT competency (Word and Excel mandatory) and qualified to at least HND level or above with at least 5+ years proven working experience, core activities for this varied Quantity Surveyor role will include (but not be limited to):

  • Attending commercial client meetings and internal project progress meetings as required
  • Undertaking Client contract management activities such as:
    • Reviewing and negotiating terms of new client contracts (including reviews during tender stage)
      • Working under the terms and processes of client contracts - Mainly the NEC 3/4 suite of contracts (i.e. Options A, B, C & E) but also sometimes other general contracts (e.g. Client specific, IChemE – Yellow book, etc.) whilst commercially protecting the company from “onerous terms or claims” as well as identifying commercial opportunities
    • Raising Early Warning Notices (EWN) and Compensation Events (NCE)
      • Deriving cost implications and justifications
      • Compiling supporting evidence for costs. (Timesheets, supplier invoices, etc) and compiling quotations.
      • Agreeing favourable outcomes with clients and acquiring client instructions for variations and additional work.
    • Creating Payment applications.
      • Creating and managing Activity Schedules including updates.
      • Targeting Costs (Actual Work Complete, Actual Work at Completion, etc.)
      • Managing payment certificates and agreeing favourable outcomes with Client as required.
    • Providing commercial reports as required
  • Supply-chain contract management
    • Managing the subcontract tender process
    • Creating and agreeing sub-contracts
    • Managing EWNs & NCEs
    • Certifying Payment Applications
