Graduate System Support Engineer (Linux)
£24,750 increasing to £29,400 after training + exceptional benefits

Location: Northamptonshire - commutable from Corby, Northampton, Kettering and Wellingborough

Description: Enthusiastic and articulate junior IT support engineer with Linux experience required by our niche sector client to support hardware and software issues to both internal and external customers associated with automated systems.

Our client is recognized as a UK market leader in the area of automated materials handling system solutions, and as a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of strategic growth for 2022, they are now looking to recruit two articulate and enthusiastic Trainee Technical Support Engineers to complement their existing support team.

Their products reside within a range of customer sites spread the length of the UK and across Europe where they provide business critical support and maintenance remotely from both home and Head Office locations. The solutions “sit” in a Linux environment and interface to a wide range of mechanical equipment and customer host interfaces, and therefore a good understanding of Linux will prove distinctly advantageous - even if at a fairly modest, non-operational level – and there will be a very basic Linux test during the interview phase with an understanding of databases again proving particularly beneficial.

The core activities of this role will be to gain experience in the use of Linux for identifying and resolving data issues as well as using an array of products to identify potential code improvements. You will gain a thorough understanding of how each of our customers work and how they use the software so that you can provide the levels of support that they expect.

Initially working on a 9-5 Monday to Friday basis during training before transferring across to the full rota shift pattern (and increase in salary) on 6am – 2pm, 2pm to 10pm and 10pm to 6am rotating and 6pm to 6am Saturdays and Sundays (around once a month), the successful candidates will be trained in providing assistance on a range of live issues and provide extensive internal and external customer support to ensure that contractual maintenance and service obligations are maintained.

You will be provided with all of the necessary technical training required to allow you to provide support with a range of customer issues and escalate any matters that are unable to be resolved through normal channels, liaising extensively with customers and engineers in the field to ensure a seamless and consistently high-quality service level is maintained at all times.

In an environment committed to the highest levels of healthy and safety and customer satisfaction, candidates will realistically be qualified to degree level or equivalent in a relevant engineering or computing discipline and hold a full clean UK driving licence, as occasional trips to customer sites may be required.

You will demonstrate exceptional communication skills at all levels and comfortable in working both autonomously and as part of a team.
