Description: Senior Mechanical Engineer required to oversee all aspects of innovative robot design and manufacture from concept to customer handover.
Our client specialises in the design and build of robot solutions used in the inspection and maintenance of buildings and infrastructure, including an innovative wall climbing robot that is capable of climbing on any surface and currently being used in inspection tasks for the concrete inspections industry and the chemical manufacturing industry – you may even have seen them on the news recently with their innovative and ground-breaking solution!
Having secured significant Venture Capital financing, coupled with a £500k Innovation investment to support their next stages of growth, they have already proved the technology on offer, and revenues are already being generated and a pipeline of customers ready to pay for the innovative technology, and are looking to grow the team by 100% in the next 12 months.
One newly created position is that of a Senior Mechanical Engineer – where the successful candidate will be responsible for playing a key role in driving reliability in the product portfolio as they launch on the market.
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the successful candidate will lead all mechanical development on the robots and their surrounding components, designing and implementing test procedures and test rigs etc, whilst integrating subsystem components into finalised products. You will produce prototype designs utilising a mix of hands-on fabrication and coordination with external manufacturers/suppliers, and working closely in a multi-disciplined team, will minimize mass and maximize performance of existing robot designs using simulation and prototyping skills.
With previous experience of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly, you will work across all product stages from R&D through to implementation and field trials, creating associated BOM’s, technical documentation and managing product revisions as required whilst ensuring that new products comply with all relevant legislation and standards as appropriate.
To be considered for this varied and unique entrepreneurial opportunity it is envisaged that the successful candidate will demonstrate at least 5 years previous experience of working within a professional product development environment, with experience of relevant hardware or robotic systems industry sector exposure proving distinctly advantageous, as would previous experience of working within start-up ventures and environments.
With natural technical problem-solving abilities and an interest in or knowledge of construction related industries, you will demonstrate strong communication skills at all levels and enjoy working with a close team as well as autonomously, and essentially be comfortable in both giving and receiving feedback to drive technical decisions. Experience of material selection for manufacturing and the ability to multi-task and manage the prioritization of both daily tasks and long term projects is essential for the role, with experience of failure analysis and flow / CFD simulation knowledge also proving distinctly advantageous.
