Description: Two experienced and enthusiastic mechanical design engineers required with experience of Solidworks, Alphacam or Swood and with experience of working in a busy design for manufacturing environment.
Our ISO accredited client has been established for more than 40 years and specialise in the manufacture of high-grade plastics used in specialist vehicle applications for supply throughout the world, and they are now seeking to recruit two experienced and enthusiastic Mechanical Design Engineers to complement their professional and motivated design team.
Reporting to the Assistant Design Manager, the successful candidates will work a 37.5hr week and be responsible for fulfilling the delivery of new and existing designs from the concept stage, assisting with the development of prototypes through to finished products ready for manufacture, bringing creative thinking to the business whilst ensuring customer needs are considered, and collaborating with other teams to ensure products are designed for efficient manufacture.
This role will be involved in major projects requiring innovative solutions that advance the technical field, and you will work closely with other departments to continually improve engineering and manufacturing principals by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices and processes. You will create component and vehicle designs to enhance the overall vehicle performance for the customer and environment, as well as assisting the transformation of concepts into prototypes for testing, validating and improvement for ultimately mass volume production, and this includes designing to meet costs, timing and quality requirements. Other duties for this varied and challenging role will include (but not be limited to):
- Providing input into the tendering process to win projects/contracts when needed
- Working with the Procurement team and assisting in the selection materials and components to meet specification and design requirements of each project/contract
- Capturing and specifying design requirements and assessing project requirements including the development and validation needed to deliver successful production to meet and exceed the customer’s specifications
- Contributing to all Design activities including RFQ’s, DFMEA, DV / PV testing and CAE and CNC Programming
- Delivering on project's design to ensure on time within budget delivery
- Advising on designs, ensuring they meet regulatory / legislative / client requirements
- Conceptualising new designs / design revisions, designing prototypes of components to conduct tests upon and using specialist computer modelling software to produce designs
- Provide adequate programming of CNC and other programmable machinery to assist with effective and timely production
- Identifying and implementing design improvements (functionality, cost, DFM)
- Use 2D and 3D CAD to produce designs, drawings and models
- Supporting the analysis of issues to resolve them, e.g., stresses, using tools such as FEA and FMEA
- Working with the Production teams to ensure that drawings are correctly interpreted and to facilitate improvements and develop effective working practices within both design and production whilst providing support to production to improve lead times
- Working with the Quality department to Investigate and solve problems, e.g. design flaws or failures whilst ensuring compliance with UK/EC/International standards and legislation as well as ISO accreditation requirements and supporting the implementation of new standards as required
To be considered for these exciting opportunities it is essential that you be able to demonstrate experience of working within an engineering design and development function, with strong working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD, in particular Solidworks, AlphaCam and Swood and both knowledge and experience of DFMEA, FMEA, APQP, PPAP, and Six Sigma or similar manufacturing models. Realistically you will be qualified to at least HND level or above in a relevant engineering / manufacturing discipline with strong technical and problem-solving skills and the ability to use design and project management software, with excellent organisational and communication skills and a meticulous approach to attention to detail.
