Our client is part of an established Group that specialise in the provision of bespoke materials handling solutions to a diverse range of customers and industry sectors worldwide. As a result of continued success and an ongoing programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an articulate and proactive Senior Buyer / Purchasing Manager to complement their established and professional team responsible for the procurement of steel, parts and stock items to fulfil the requirements of the production department.
 
Reporting to the Production Manager and based out of the production facility near Northampton, the successful Senior Buyer candidate will be responsible for negotiating and agreeing contracts with Suppliers to ensure that the best prices and quality of goods are secured, whilst developing and sustaining excellent relationships with Suppliers in order to ensure that deliveries are made on time and can be made on tight timescales as required.
 
You will input data on to the computerised stock system (Opera) relating to parts lists, parts creation, order details and labour times and will mentor and manage the Purchasing Assistant in order to ensure their development and support, as well as managing the stores, stores personnel and associated stock control and updating the inventory as required.
 
As the Senior Buyer, you will forecast demand for certain products and orders and be responsible for processing delivery notes and invoices as required, and will work closely with both the production team to ensure that products are purchased in a timely manner and the sales team to ensure the information required in order to purchase the products is on the relevant paperwork. Other duties will include attending production meetings to gain knowledge of new orders and future business and supplier meetings as and when necessary.
 
It is envisaged that the successful candidate will currently be working in a similar Procurement Manager or Senior Buyer capacity within an engineering or manufacturing environment and demonstrate comprehensive skills and experience in all aspects of negotiation and supply chain management. Experience in the use of a dedicated stock control system is required (with knowledge of the Opera system proving advantageous although not essential) and exceptional communication skills at all levels are essential for the position to ensure solid relationships are developed and maintained with both suppliers and colleagues in the stores, production and quality departments.
 
A full driving licence and demonstrable experience gained within a technical environment are also essential for the role as well as a good level of IT proficiency and the flexibility to work additional hours as required to ensure customer satisfaction at various locations, and in return an attractive benefits package, stability and genuine career progression opportunities are available.
