Our client, established for more than a century and renowned globally as a market leader in their specialist field, is urgently seeking to recruit a highly self-motivated, proactive and dynamic Design Engineer Manager to join their dynamic and professional team. Based in Coventry, the successful candidate will be tasked with leading, managing and working as part of a focused global Engineering team that supports the Sales group in developing custom cooling packages for industrial diesel engines or similar applications. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong engineering background with an emphasis on mechanical design with the ability to work in an often pressurised environment and meet deadlines as required.
In this very much hands on role, you will be tasked with performing outline mechanical designs using internal and third party design software as well as establishing detailed designs using company engineering methods and best-practices. You will liaise closely with the customer and in-house manufacturing departments, creating mechanical designs using 3D/2D CAD software programs including SolidWorks, Inventor and AutoCAD for air-cooled and water-cooled heat exchangers, and will use FEA software to design and optimize to component elements as required.
You will additionally establish product costs through reference to price lists, standard cost data, bought in component costs and liaison with costing and purchasing departments and will check contract review documents on receipt of an order and produce pre-production engineering release documents for subsequent processing leading to design and manufacture. With excellent communication skills at all levels, you will establish a technical rapport and liaison with the customer including site visits as required with occasional overseas travel, coordinating all aspects of the design engineering work with the ultimate aim of becoming the go-to resource for design and product expertise.
To be considered for this varied and challenging role, you will essentially demonstrate previous experience in the use of Inventor, SolidWorks and AutoCAD software packages for both 2D and 3D design, along with strong communication skills at all levels and proficiency with the MS suite of Office programs. You will possess excellent planning and organizational skills to ensure that designs and proposals are completed in an accurate and timely manner as well as proven problem solving and multi-tasking skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at any one time whilst paying meticulous levels of attention to detail at all times.
It is envisaged that the successful candidate will possess previous experience of managing or supervising teams and will realistically be HNC or Degree qualified in a mechanical discipline or demonstrate equivalent experience within an engineering environment. with a mechanical bias. Previous experience of working in a heat transfer or related industrial field with knowledge of FEA software tools will prove distinctly advantageous, although experience gained in the design of tube and fin radiators, plate and bar coolers, shell and tube heat exchangers or extended surface charge air coolers will also be favourably considered.
