Safety Engineer - Avionic Systems - East Midlands to £45k

Description: Safety Engineer required to work on a range of safety critical avionic systems for both civil and military applications.

Safety Engineer – Aerospace / Avionics Programme

 
Purpose of the Role:
 
Lead the safety activities for an Aerospace system. This involves support to the project team in all areas relating to safety, including safety of flight. Lead all safety matters both internal and external - customer and the supply chain. The role will also cover:
· Support the establishment of safety organisation, processes and guidelines within the Client for the present and for the future. Provide expert judgement and guidance as an independent safety expert.
· Preparation and support to the transfer of Design Authority of the platform to the Client while providing expert knowledge of system safety, both within the UK and overseas.
· Perform safety related activities as part of the development, integration, trials and qualification effort.
· Take part in customer and supplier safety activities as an aid to building knowledge in the specialist aerospace safety domain.
 
 
Main Responsibilities
 
· Company safety expert. Safety independent specialist.
· Improve safety related processes as part of the company processes and specific programme processes and procedures.
· Represent the client and participate in meetings and reviews with customers and subcontractors covering the aspects of the aerospace system safety.
· Organise and administer the definition, collection, assessment and collation of safety evidence in all required levels in a manner acceptable to the programme and external regulatory bodies.
 
 
Main Tasks
 
· Improve, train, coach and institutionalise safety management processes, guidelines and checklists within the company and at programme level.
· Support safety audits and safety matters of all audits of the company and the programmes.
· Participate in Safety Committee meetings as the safety expert.
· Generate and maintain Safety Management Plan and Safety Programme Plan for the clients programmes.
· Generate and maintain Hazard Log, Safety Case and Safety Case Report after leading all safety activities (hazard analysis, safety risk estimation and sentencing etc.) in the programmes.
· Review safety documentation and safety aspects in technical documentation, generated in the organisation, the sub-contractors or the customer, and verify compliance with the safety requirements.
· Participate in customer and subcontractors safety reviews / meetings and equipment inspections / demos representing the client as safety expert.
· Participate in the customer and the client sub-contractor safety meetings and activities in support of knowledge transfer to the client.
· Define/Generate/Review the safety certification requirements and evidence for all product levels.
· Co-ordinate supplier inputs and the collation of system-level data to meet the contractual requirements.
 
 
Essential
 
· Proven experience of aircraft safety of flight processes, either as a supplier or as a regulator role.
· Knowledge of the safety requirements applicable to military aircraft, with all relevant defence standards and legislation.
· Knowledge of complex electronic systems.
· Degree educated in an engineering discipline or with extensive industry experience in safety with an emphasis on the safety of flight role. Alternatively, a Military background with Aero-systems education and experience of safety of flight regulations.
· Good written and verbal communication skills will be needed. Ability to present data to staff within and outside the organisation will be required.
· Good comprehension skills (the ability to rapidly assimilate large amounts of data in an accurate summary).
· Personal and professional integrity
 
 
Desirable
 
· Knowledge and experience of Airworthiness.
· Knowledge of civil aircraft requirements.
· Knowledge of complex electronic systems in a military environment.
